PIAZZA UMBERTO I

 

TOWARDS THE END OF THE NINETEENTH CENTURY WITH THE END OF THE BRIGANDAGE AND THE SUBSEQUENT SETTLEMENT OF THE POLICE STATION WERE BUILT THE FIRST HOUSES OUTSIDE THE WALL . 

AT FIRST NEAR VIA S.SEBASTIANO AND LATER ALONG THE GARDENS CALLED TODAY UMBERTO I’S SQUARE. 

EAST OF THE SQUARE THERE IS A CASTLE-PALACE OF THE PRINCES COLONNA,AN ANCIENT AND FAMOUS ROMAN FAMILY, DURING THE FIFTIES THE PALACE WAS RENOVATED IN A KINDERGARTEN THANKS TO THE EFFORTS OF THE CARDINAL DOMENICO IORIO.
